Brian Jackson, Development Manager from JA of Oklahoma shared his great experience with local residents of Muskogee, OK. "Earlier this year, I received a heart-warming call from a resident of an assisted living community in Muskogee, Oklahoma where JAOK serves 2,000 students. The resident requested our community youth in the Junior Achievement Company Program to build 15 Lazy Susans to make table condiments easily accessible. A Lazy Susan is a rotating tray that makes food or other objects easily available to all by turning the tray until the item can be reached."

"The resident knew to call me because of the JA logo on my business card, which she received from her son who I met in the community working on JA development. They ended up talking and decided to give us a call! The resident made reference to JA from all the places she has lived. She also knew about the JA Company Program and how it helps both students and members of the community."

"As a youth organization, she recognized that 'JA gets the job done!' I contacted our Public School?s Superintendent, who supported the idea and approved it as a project for the high school?s carpentry class. A fellow JA team member, Sara Weller, Program Director, paid for the materials."

"Having a Lazy Susan will 'keep us from saying 'please' and 'pass something," said Ruth Lang, one of the residents. Another resident, Velma Dean, said, 'We can get it for ourselves and not have to ask for it.' Jean Deming seemed to appreciate the gift the most. 'Now we don't have to reach clear over here to get something,' she said."

"The Superintendent said that the project gave the students 'purpose' and allowed them to practice their skills and design capabilities. This heart-warming story all started with a call to a JA representative!"
