On February 11th, the National African-American Insurance Association, NAAIA-Houston Chapter paid it forward by hosting over 85 high school students for a JA Kick Start Your Future virtual conference! As an organization, NAAIA is dedicated to empowering African Americans in the insurance industry and increasing awareness of opportunities and careers within the industry. Students from Cypress Ridge HS, Debakey HS, Houston Academy for International Studies, and Wheatley HS were introduced to various careers within the insurance industry by NAAIA volunteers. These NAAIA members shared their professional journey with students, offered guidance on ethical decision making and discussed how to create positive professional impacts through social media. Students asked volunteers engaging questions throughout which created a very interactive, fun event for all involved.
Pam Humphrey, President of the NAAIA Houston Chapter, was very appreciative of the experience, “Thank you to Kimberly and Necole for all your assistance in organizing this first event between NAAIA- Houston and Junior Achievement. We enjoyed interacting with the students and giving them some insight about careers in insurance. Both the social media topic and the personal finance were great segments and generated a lot of discussion.” Our team at JA loves finding partners like NAAIA that are passionate about making a positive impact on local students.
Thank you to NAAIA for helping inspire our youth and educating them about careers in the insurance industry. We look forward to continuing this great work together and invite others to join us in fulfilling the JA mission!
